Who cares about writing? What are people trying to learn about writing before even thinking about entering a writing class?
There are a lot of ways to answer this question, but I think we can learn a lot of social media like YouTube and TikTok in terms of what kind of content about writing is interesting or useful to the average person (often two different types of content). I also look at a platform like YouTube and see the potential for interesting stories about how really small changes in language can have a big impact in the world.
So I’ve made some things. I helped produce a video trying to tackle the old question What Is Rhetoric? I spent a few years making videos for the Purdue OWL and mentoring other grad students on video production. I also manage a YouTube channel called More Than Memos that highlights current research in technical communication.
